Styles & Genres
As I'm primarily a saxophonist, I particularly like jazz and think jazz ukulele is so underrated! We can go into detail about jazz chords and the theory behind them, for example what makes certain chords sound jazzy and why. My love of this genre also extends into 50s and 60s rock n' roll classics. And most of Taylor Swift's discography.
Favourite Songs to Teach
Stupid Cupid - Connie Francis
Dream a Little Dream of Me - Ella version
Can't Help Falling in Love - Elvis
You Belong With Me - Taylor Swift
Stand By Me - Ben E King
Hi I'm Jenny and I've been a musician for fifteen years. Upon gaining a place on the actor-musician course at the prestigious Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, I was taught woodwind by some of the industry's leading professionals, including BBC Big Band's Howard McGill. As well as teaching, I regularly perform with bands such as The South London Jazz Orchestra and my own quartet, The Jenny Murphy Jazz Group.
I picked up the ukulele for fun some nine years ago and it’s stayed with me ever since, becoming one of my most frequently played and taught instruments! I've taught for several years, privately and at institutions such as the London School of Arts (and School of Uke of course), and love seeing my students progress and most importantly, enjoy their instruments.
Whether you're an absolute beginner, have dabbled with other instruments in the past or want to transfer your current musical skills to something new, we can find a lesson plan to suit you.
