Ukulele Lesson with Paul Rains
“I think learning the ukulele opens the door to playing all kinds of music, even using songs that don’t feature the instrument. I really like giving you the tools to really get to know the fretboard and develop your own personal style. Learning the instrument is really fun when you get the opportunity to play music you are already a fan of, but it’s also a great way to discover new music in the process too.”
- Paul

"Hone your ukulele skills with an experienced, patient and engaging tutor with an eclectic taste in music!"
Styles & Genres
I teach ukulele friendly versions of famous hits and less well known tunes, and encourage experimentation, using the ukulele to explore different sounds and textures. I can demystify theory in a way that is accessible and digestible for beginners and more experienced players alike, and dive into the nuts and bolts of modes, songwriting and chord structure using popular songs.
I cover a wide range of contemporary music from the 1950s to the present day, including pop, rock and indie, soul, r&b, electronic, post-punk, bossa nova, cuban, spanish and african styles. I strongly encourage my students to play their part in a whole arrangement using backing tracks or music videos to enhance their involvement and really be in the sound world of a song.

Bio
Hi, I'm Paul and I've been teaching the ukulele at Duke of Uke and School of Uke since 2009, teaching over 800 lessons to date.
I have 20 years experience playing electric guitar and piano professionally as a session musician with recording and touring artists in London and worldwide. I enjoy bringing my experience as a performer and producer to my teaching role so I can inspire people to create and really appreciate song-craft in both new and classic recordings.
