What to expect?

Expect a collaborative, fun learning experience with a patient and encouraging tutor. Lessons are tailored to the student, so we’ll focus on what you want to learn at a level and pace that suits you.

Styles & Genres

My musical taste ranges from music hall and wartime favourites, to jazz standards and classic rock ‘n’ roll from the 50s and 60s. I also love a bit of musical theatre, enjoy music with folk influences, and I can’t resist a Disney song!

I enjoy teaching creative strumming patterns and fingerpicking to shape a performance and to develop the story of a song. I like to accompany playing with singing, and can provide guidance for students who would like to do the same.

Favourite Songs to Teach

I Wanna Be Like You – The Jungle Book

Riverside – Agnes Obel

A Teenager in Love – Dion & The Belmonts

I’m Yours – Jason Mraz

The Rainbow Connection – The Muppet Movie

Bio

Hello! I’m Lydia. I’m an actor and musician, and believe that if everyone learnt to play the ukulele, the world would be a happier place!

I was given a ukulele for Christmas about 10 years ago, and, well, the rest is history. I play a multitude of other musical instruments, but I love the uke for its charming character and wonderful accessibility.

I love sharing the joy of playing an instrument, and have taught privately and in schools, to groups and individuals of all ages. My teaching is informed and enhanced by years of experience as a performer, and by my actor-musician training from Rose Bruford College.

Lydia's Soundbite

“The language of music is common to all generations and nations; it is understood by everybody, since it is understood with the heart.” – Rossini.
